Police launch hate crime probe over Ongar brawl video

Police launch hate crime probe over video showing girl being knocked out by kick to the face by man in mass street brawl involving pupils and adults near Essex school

Police are investigating an alleged hate crime after a video spread online showing a mass brawl near a school.

Shocking footage shows the youngsters – some of whom are in school uniform – exchanging blows on Fyfield Road in Ongar, Essex.

The footage pans to a girl on the floor who is being attacked by several boys.

She briefly gets up before falling over and being kicked in the head by a man – seemingly knocking her out.

Officers were called to the incident at 3.20pm yesterday and broke up the fight, which did not result in any serious injuries.

Claims circulating on social media that some of the people involved were Syrian are incorrect, MailOnline understands.

Ongar Academy, a secondary school, is around five minutes’ walk away, although it is unclear if any of its pupils were involved.

MailOnline has contacted the school for comment.

Essex Police said: ‘Anyone who does have footage of the incident is asked to share it with police by submitting a report on the website www.essex.police.uk/digital101 or by using the online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday between 10am-9pm.

‘Alternatively you can call 101 and ask to speak to Loughton CID.’
