Putin unveils statue dedicated to apocalypse rocket in ‘solemn’ ceremony

Vladimir Putin has unveiled a massive statue dedicated to Russia's “unstoppable” 15,880mph intercontinental missile, which is the size of a 14-storey tower block.

The Russian leader has teased the West with his giant 208-tonne hypersonic Satan-2 apocalypse missile, which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

And now, the "unstoppable" Satan-2 – known to Russians as Sarmat – has been given a statue in the “closed” village of Solnechny in a “solemn” ceremony.

‌It was blessed by an Orthodox cleric during the unveiling involving top missile commander Major-General Vladimir Kvashin.

A sign, intimating the scale of destruction Satan-2 will wreak, read: “Only silence after us.”

‌It was due to be deployed last year – but is still not on “combat duty” and Russian propagandists claim that Satan-2 could sink Britain under a giant tidal wave.

Putin said seven months ago: “In the near future, Sarmat ICBMs will be put on combat duty for the first time.

“We know there will be a certain delay in time but this does not change our plans – everything will be done.”

Last month he boasted: “In the nearest future the first launch pads of Sarmat [Satan-2] with a new heavy missile will be put on combat duty…”

There has yet to be a formal announcement.

Instead Solnechny – base of the 62nd missile division – in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk region, four time zones east of Moscow, has got its life-size statue.

Putin’s launch pad boast was the latest from Russian officials that the rocket is poised for deployment.

Yet expected tests of the Armageddon weapon which can be loaded with multiple nuclear warheads have apparently not happened.

Defence analysts suspecting hypersonic hyperbole have pointed out that Russia’s earlier R-36M2 Voevoda missile was tested no less than 17 times before it was put on combat duty.

The last known confirmed test was on 20 April 2022, with Putin in touch by video-link.
