Putin’s troops burn church and cut off cab driver’s finger at training camp

Locals in a Russian village are being terrorised by Russian conscripts at a training camp who burned a church down and cut off a taxi driver's finger.

Mulino in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region is a major training center for soldiers and is the shoot off point for many of Vladimir Putin's recent conscripts.

The Insider reports that the soldiers' behaviour is so bad that locals have even asked the Nizhny Novgorod governor to enforce a “dry law” and keep the military from leaving their bases.

In April, locals complained that the Church of the Great Martyr George was torched by conscripts.

Two drunk soldiers reportedly sneaked into the church at night and the altar mysteriously caught fire. One of the AWOL troops was reportedly so drunk that he didn't wake up and was killed in the blaze.

“We came to the service on the Annunciation, and the church was gone. The service ended up on the street in the evening,” says Svetlana, a Mulino local.

Locals assumed on social media that contract servicemen were to blame, before finding out that the two men were conscripts.

Abbas Ali, a taxi driver, agreed to take young soldiers from the military camp to a sauna in a nearby town in June and ended up missing a finger.

The soldiers became irate when a moose jumped out onto the road and its antlers hit the car, dirtying the uniform of the troop in the front seat.

The soldiers, who were already drunk and had stopped to buy more vodka en route, took him to a forest in his own car and dragged him out.

“I begged these soldiers, I told them I have children, a family. I have nothing on me, let's go back to the village, I’ll compensate you for everything,” the 50-year-old said.

“He grabbed [a knife] and said: your finger or your life? I said: my finger, of course. He put my little finger on a pile of logs and sliced it off.”

He also suffered broken ribs, a concussion, lung damage, and multiple hematomas. Mr Ali was told he would be killed if he reported the beating.

The four men were arrested and charged with only robbery.

The problem with 'wild' soldiers has got so bad that women and children avoid walking alone in the dark, fearing drunk troops.

Locals have called for tougher controls on the soldiers and have appealed to authorities.
