Racehorse owner suffers £194k loss on stallion over ‘abnormally large testicles’
A racehorse has been sold by his owners at a massive loss after its previous owners admitted that his “abnormally large testicles” slowed him down on the track.
Australian-born 5-year-old stallion Morethannumberone was valued at 375,000 Australian dollars (£211,533.75) as a yearling but was sold this month for a rather more modest AUS$31,000 (£17,486.79).
His former owner, Hong Kong-based Barry Lee, say he decided to sell the horse rather than geld him.
While he owned Morethannumberone, the horse won one of 14 races, winning AUS $46,530.
Assistant trainer James Moore said: “He is a lovely horse and if he gets gelded, we think there is a lot of improvement left in him."
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, James added: “We just wanted people to know that and whether he's with us or someone else I'm sure the next owner will have a lot of fun."
A description on specialist buying and selling website Inglis explained: ““His current owner has elected to go to auction with Morethannumberone as he has not qualified for Hong Kong importation.
“Having been reluctant to geld Morethannumberone, it is believed that his new connections may reap the rewards from the removal of his abnormally large testicles, that have been deemed to cause restriction.
James Moore said that his stables would be happy to continue training Morethannumberone, and added that he believed that if he was gelded the horse would be likely to win a lot more races.
"He had a long preparation and we finally worked that he is a better chaser in the last couple of runs," he said. "I know he led when he won at Newcastle, but we have found that his best runs for us have been when he relaxes and we will be sharing that with his new owners. He will be a different horse as a gelding."
