Severe winds to lash UK throughout next week – Met Office warning
Met Office shares week ahead weather
The Met Office has warned Britons to expect “wet and windy” weather next week. The national weather agency is predicting the warmest day of the year so far tomorrow on Easter Sunday with 18C. But, the meteorologists claim this will quickly turn unsettled, as huge amounts of rain return throughout next week.
The Met Office tweeted: “Feeling pleasant in the sunshine today but with slightly higher temperatures tomorrow, Easter Sunday could be the warmest day of the year so far at 18C.”
This comes after dry and fine weekend weather for most across the country this Bank Holiday weekend.
The warmest day of 2023 to date was on 30 March when a temperature of 17.8C was recorded in the Suffolk village of Santon Downham.
However, regarding next week, the Met Office added: “Turning unsettled next week with a strong jet stream fuelling a developing low-pressure system which looks likely to bring a more sustained period of wet and windy weather from Tuesday and into Wednesday.”

In its detailed forecast, the Met Office told Britons to expect “gusts of wind could be as high as 60-70 mph in some exposed upland or coastal regions, with around 30-40mm of rain possible for some areas”.
The unsettled weather fronts will unleash periods of significant rain on Monday and Tuesday.
This will intensify by Wednesday thanks to the “developing low-pressure system” in the Atlantic.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates even claimed that snow will likely fall, but this will be confined to “high ground in the north”.
UK weather: Further wet conditions forecast by Met Office
The meteorologists remain uncertain about the forecast following Wednesday, as the low-pressure system is likely to gradually move into the North Sea late on Wednesday and into Thursday.
However, Mr Keates suggested that “there are signals for some further wind and rain to come later next week”.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly added: “A change is on the way for the UK weather as the dry, settled, and in places warm conditions are replaced by a more unsettled weather pattern from Sunday afternoon.”

Mr Kelly continued: “This change happens first for Northern Ireland and Scotland, where Sunday afternoon rain will be replaced by blustery showers overnight and into Monday.
“Elsewhere, a mainly dry, but increasingly cloudy day on Sunday, with rain arriving for parts of Wales and southwest England by evening. Rain spreads east across other areas into Monday, with showers following.”
Despite the wet and windy weather forecasts, Britain could enjoy warmer weather tomorrow than some Greek islands including Santorini, Mykonos and Crete, where many people have travelled for the Easter holidays.
The Met Office has warned that UV levels tomorrow could be as strong as the “back end of the summer”, bringing the risk of sunburn.
