Stray cat with broken jaw and no tongue makes epic transformation after rescue

A stray cat found with no tongue and a broken jaw has made an incredible transformation after being rescued and having surgery.

Willy, an orange tabby, was found by a local at the roadside in the town of Ierapetra, Crete in Greece and was brought to an animal shelter in August last year.

In footage posted on Instagram, a pickup truck driver is seen bringing the terrified cat to the shelter.

He picks up the young moggie, whose lower jaw is twisted at a gruesome angle, before putting him into a kennel.

Takis, the founder of the shelter, took Willy in and he and his helpers tried to feed him with water and wet food.

But due to his injury, the cat could not swallow and was only able to sniff around.

Takis took Willy to the veterinary clinic the next day for a close-up inspection.

While he suspected it was an old injury, the veterinarian believed Willy had had a "terrible accident days ago".

In an interview with Daily Star, he said: "The vet noticed that he had no tongue and said he must have had a terrible accident days ago and his jaw broke and the tongue cuts off.

"Willy was very calm and quiet when we first met her. He was not in pain and he was comfortable to be in a room full of cats. But we had to feed her with a syringe."

The poor cat has since undergone two operations to fix his oral cavity and the lower jaw.

Three months later, Takis shared a video of Willy's post-surgery condition on Instagram.

The strong-willed feline can now drink and eat on his own without using any aid – which has seen him put on some much-needed weight.

Willy also seems to be having a great time with other cats in the shelter and is definitely getting cosy with the carers.

His jaw is no longer hanging out and he is now able to close his mouth despite having one tooth sticking out.

Takis told this site: "Willy has had two surgeries so far and currently is doing great, he is very playful and well adjusted.

"As you can see in his videos, he has learned to eat and drink water without a tongue, he has put on weight but he does need help with cleaning himself."

Viewers who followed Willy's journey called Takis a hero for bringing the cat back to full recovery.

One said: "It is amazing to see how well Willy adjusted despite all the challenges. Just wonderful!"

Another wrote: "It's heartbreaking to see him in that condition but it's also obvious that he enjoys his like. Thank you Takis."

"You're a hero for taking care for Willy!" a third added. "Bless him and you all, for giving him so much love and care."
