Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been snared in a brutal “d**k of the year" prank.

The MP for Fareham was humiliated by Channel 4’s The Last Leg. She was invited to a mock boat launch by bogus Fareham Fishing to launch the Betty Warren, a small boat not dissimilar to the ones she campaigned to stop.

The two members of the organisation were in fact undercover 30-year-old YouTube stars Joshua Pieters and Archie Manners, who spun 43-year-old Braverman along for the fake launch on the River Wallington. Behind the banner for Fareham Fishing Braverman’s award lurked, as the duo offered up a fake spiel about how “delighted” they were to have the “much-missed” former cabinet member.

“It is testament to Suella’s dedication as a local MP that she has taken the time to christen this small boat,” Pieters says. “With her huge engine, sleek exterior but strong, firm and steady tiller she is just perfect. And that’s just Suella."

Braverman said it was a “real honour to join your fantastic team, to pay tribute to all of you for your confidence in Fareham. Good luck to the Betty Warren. It’s my honour to launch her.”

But as the controversial politician snips the red ribbon the curtain drops and her “d*** of the year” award is exposed for all to see, while Manners pops some confetti.

“You are ‘d*** of the year,’ by popular vote” he exclaims. Braverman looks shocked as the pair walk off. “I’m not sure what that’s all about,” the bemused public figure says.

Manners and Pieters have since explained in a statement: “We knew Suella liked boats, and photocalls, so we hope she will forgive us for setting up this ruse which was really all about celebrating her and her award.”

The Last Leg is one of the most popular shows on Channel 4 and had previously asked members of social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to vote for their “d*** of the year,” with candidates including Rishi Sunak, Elon Musk and VAR.
