Teen finds mysterious message in an energy drink bottle that washed up on shore
A teenager living in Portugal found a plastic energy drink bottle containing a mysterious note inside while spearfishing in the Azores.
The 'message in the bottle' appears to have been sent in 2018 by a 13-year-old boy from Vermont, who was visiting Rhode Island on the west coast of America.
The incredible find by Christian Santos, 17, has ignited an international search to find the boy who would now be around 17 years old, reports the Boston Globe.
The note was found inside an energy drink and although slightly damaged, it somehow remained intact after a 2,400 miles journey from Rhode Island.
The note in orange pen reads: "“It is Thanksgiving. I am 13 and visiting family in Rhode Island. I am from Vermont. If found email [email protected].”
Christian often dives off the island of São Jorge, near to a village called faja João Diwhere, where he found the note and regularly finds rubbish from plastic bags to old rope.
He told the Boston Globe: “I picked it up and looked inside and there was a paper in there. I thought it was interesting and went to show it to my mum.”
In another twist of fate, Christian and his family actually used to live in Boston, near to the area where the bottle was launched before moving to the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean 10 years ago.

Christian's mother posted an appeal on her Facebook after her son found the message in a bottle, she wrote: "Hey guys!!! So my son was diving here in the Azores and he found a bottle floating he grabbed it and there was a note in it!!!
"We tried emailing the person no response so if you know someone who lives in Vermont ask them to share this so we can find this kid it’s so cool how far it came!!!"
Christian hopes that he will one day meet the boy who sent the bottle across the ocean and believes they will become strong friends.
"I would like to tell him I found it, and where it was, what I was doing. And we’re going to be friends for life,” he told WCVB TV in Boston.
