Tot and two teens mauled after pack of pitbulls escaped through dog house window

A two-year-old girl is one of three victims to have been attacked by a pack of dogs that escaped a house through a window.

Police are investigating a terrifying ambush by some of the 15 dogs kept in a home in Staten Island, New York City, US, where three people suffered bites to their hands and legs.

The toddler, a 13-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman set upon are understood to all be in a okay condition despite an image of the grim puncture wounds inflicted on the latter's calf.

A neighbour told NBC New York that at least four of the dogs ran out through an open back window and started wandering up and down the road, forcing a man to jump on a car for his own safety.

Animal Care & Control officials helped emergency services respond to the chaotic scene with dog crates that they loaded largely with puppies and the offending pets.

Coralee Chandler, who heard loud barking and screaming coming from the street, commented: "[The dogs] kept going up the hill and the down the hill, and across the street some guy went up on top of the car to get away from them."

Police said a man and a woman have been arrested in relation to the incident but their exact charges were not made clear by the authorities.

The condition of the three dogs, all pit bulls, wasn't immediately clear, nor was it known what would become of them. At least 15 dogs remained inside the house, police said.

Princess Wilson, the mum of one of the dogs’ owners, explained that her daughter had been living on the road in York Avenue for three years and the dogs were family pets.

Princess said: “It’s unfortunate that the dogs got out and attacked someone, that’s a sad thing.

“I came here from work to see if I could assist (the police) with taking out the puppies. I’m very upset, but accidents happen, and if I could take it back, I would.”
