‘Two dead’ as plane and chopper in mid-air collision as aircraft ‘fell from sky’

Two people are said to have died after a helicopter crashed into an plane mid-air.

The fixed-wing plane was able to land, but the helicopter crashed and caught on fire in Arizona, USA, on Friday morning.

Shortly after the tragic crash, fire officials confirmed that the two occupants of the chopper had lost their lives. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

It happened Chandler Municipal Airport in Maricopa County. Officials have not yet confirmed what caused the tragic crash.

The police are asking anyone who may have seen the mid-air collision to get in touch.

It is unclear how many passengers were on the plane but they are all reported to have survived.

A Chandler Police Sergeant said that the airport is currently closed and that the surrounding roads are also shut. The authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

One person on Twitter reported the plane made a "rough landing", which lead to a "multi unit response".

Meanwhile, four people were killed after a plane crashed into a building in the US state of Connecticut in September.

Police said two pilots and two passengers were on the plane and tragically died during the incident, which happened just after 10am on Thursday, September 2.

The plane departed from Robertson Field Airport in Plainville and was headed to Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina, according to the FAA.

Local media reports suggested that people were in the building at the time of the crash, although police said that no one in the building was hurt.

Images shared on social media appear to show the building on fire following the crash.

The plane, a Cessna Citation 560X business jet, crashed into a Trumpf Inc building – a German industrial machine manufacturing company.
