Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia after the Kremlin launched cluster and vacuum bomb attacks as part of an indiscriminate bombing campaign on the eastern city of Kharkiv. In a late-night address directed at Russia, President Zelensky said there would “definitely be an international tribunal” for what he said was a “violation of all conventions”. “No one in the world will forgive you for killing peaceful Ukrainian people,” he added. The attack, which began only hours after Russian and Ukrainian delegates entered so-called peace negotiations in Belarus, left at least 11 dead, including three children, and reduced a school to rubble.

British intelligence update: Russian troops make ‘little progress’

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has released an intelligence update this morning, revealing Russian troops have made “little progress” in the last 24 hours despite ruthlessly attacking civilian targets.

The MoD suggests this is “probably as a result of continuing logistical difficulties”.

Russia has increased its use of artillery north of Kyiv and in Kharkiv and Chernihiv, “greatly increasing the risk of civilian casualties”.

It is thought Moscow has significantly underestimated the Ukrainian defence, which has managed to resist Russian advances in several regions.

There has also been a shift to night operations after Moscow was unable to gain control of the airspace over Ukraine.

Ukraine accuses Russia of using a ‘vacuum bomb’

Russian troops used a vacuum bomb on Monday as part of their ruthless invasion of Ukraine.

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the US, appealed to members of US Congress for more help.

She said: “They used the vacuum bomb today, which is actually prohibited by the Geneva convention.

“The devastation that Russia is trying to inflict on Ukraine is large.”

She said Ukraine was working actively with US President Joe Biden’s administration and Congress to obtain more weapons and tougher sanctions.

“They should pay, they should pay a heavy price,” the ambassador said.

A vacuum bomb uses oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion, typically producing a blast wave of a significantly longer duration than that of a conventional explosive.
