Willie Thorne's wife finds love with new man one year on from snooker star's tragic death

THE widow of late snooker legend Willie Thorne has found love a year after his tragic death.

Ex-Miss GB Jill Thorne, 61, is now dating financial adviser John Harrington, 59.

The couple were introduced to each other by friends, the Mirror reported.

They have posted photos of each other to social media – including one of them on a date at Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire.

Jill said: "We have been seeing each other for a few months, but it’s still early days.

“We’re not rushing into anything, but we’re enjoying each other’s company.”

Willie Thorne – one of snooker's biggest stars in the 1980s and 90s – died in June last year from leukaemia.

Willie fought a gambling addiction, depression and bankruptcy in his final years with Jill.

They moved to Spain to try and repair their relationship but Jill left Willie in 2019 and moved back to England.

After Willie got sick they got back in touch and they were in regular contact before he died.

Jill said after his death: "We still loved each other. We texted or spoke to each other every day – particularly when he became poorly.

"Despite the turmoil we loved each other very much for 24 years. It’s so sad. But he can now rest in peace.”

Jill, a mum-of-two, won Miss GB in 1985 and her and Willie got together in the mid 1990s.
