Woman 'raped by man in tracksuit' in park behind popular shopping centre as cops hunt suspect

A WOMAN has been "raped by man in a tracksuit" in a park behind a busy shopping centre as cops now hunt the suspect.

The victim was taken to hospital after she was attacked at around 10pm yesterday.

Officers have been stopping people from accessing a section a park behind the Princess Alice Retail Park in Sutton Coldfield, where a cordon remains in place.

She is being being treated for her injuries and specialist charities are standing by ready to help her.

It is thought the man was wearing a grey tracksuit and forensic evidence is urgently being analysed as well as a review of CCTV footage is being carried out.

Detective inspector Andy McHugh is leading the investigation. He said: “We’ll be working around the clock to find this man but you can help by checking your CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage.

"Look for anything that doesn’t seem right. Tell us right away if you see anything.

“Our thoughts are with the woman who is understandably extremely traumatised.”

They say they'll ramp up the amount of officers patrolling the area over the next few days.
