Sun-seeking Brit tourists get green light to holiday in Turkey from May

Brits could be soaking up the sun in Turkey as early as May, when Covid travel restrictions are set to be lifted.

The popular holiday destination wants to open up its borders to sunseekers from the UK to boost its usually thriving tourism industry, The Sun reports.

A source told the newspaper tourists who have not yet been vaccinated may soon be able to visit the country if they have a negative covid test on arrival.

Turkish holiday resorts are offering cheap travel insurance packages which offer PCR tests for as little as 30 euros.

The nation has already jabbed 10 million people. From today, workers at tourist hotspots and resorts are in the priority queue for the vaccine.

A source told The Sun: “Turkey is ready and willing to let the British come in as soon as possible, and as safe as possible.

“The tourism industry is massive for Turkey, and they have done everything they can to make people safe and keep the disease at bay.

“They were one of the first areas of the world to introduce testing at airports and inside hotel resorts."

The source added an announcement should be coming soon.

It's thought the Turkish government wants its citizens to be safely vaccinated by the time tourists are allowed to visit again.

Around 2.5 million Brits visit Turkey on holiday every year.

Greece, Cyprus and Spain have already said jabbed Brits can return to their holiday resorts as soon as international travel restrictions are lifted.

Transport secretary Grant Shapps said he was "hopeful" foreign summer holidays would be back on the table.

But he urged Brits desperate to book a holiday abroad to wait until April 12 when he'll publish a review of the Global Travel Taskforce’s recommendations.
