Boris allies join ‘powerful’ Tory rightwing coalition to force Sunak to cut tax

Nick Robinson asks Rishi Sunak ‘Where was the proposal for a tax on meat?’

Rishi Sunak will face a major push by the right of his party to adopt “common sense policies” in the next Conservative election manifesto, which will tackle the biggest crises facing Britain.

A rally at the Tory conference next week organised by the New Conservatives – made up of Tory MPs from the 2017 and 2019 election intakes – will demand action on membership of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), tackling woke problems, especially in schools, and bringing in tax cuts.

Sources have told Express.co.uk that the rally hopes for a return to “true conservative values” and the demands are being branded the “Red Wall’s Rival 5 Pledges”, a reference to the ones the Prime Minister unveiled at the start of this year.

The rally will focus on pushing policies on “immigration, human rights, education, tax and gender issues”.

In particular, they want the Prime Minister to promise a tougher line on protecting biological women in the transgender debate.

The New Conservatives were founded by two rising stars on the right of the party – MPs Danny Kruger and Miriam Cates.

Both have promoted pro-family policies and Ms Cates has led the debate on taking on transgender extremists.

Among those backing the rally will be the Common Sense Group, founded by veteran former minister Sir John Hayes, who have pushed for the UK to leave the ECHR.

It will also feature allies of Boris Johnson including Dame Priti Patel and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg in what is being privately billed as “a powerful coalition on the right”.

MPs in both groups believe that the small boats crisis with illegal migrants coming over the Channel can only be resolved when the ECHR’s “politicised” court in Strasburg no longer has jurisdiction over the UK.

The demand which will win the most support though will be an end to the tax hikes brought in by Mr Sunak and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and replaced with tax cuts.

As well as tackling illegal immigration it is understood that the rally will demand much tighter controls on legal immigration after the UK has seen record numbers come in the last two years.

This will include a much stronger clampdown on student visas and the rights of families to come to Britain.

Both groups are understood to be supporting efforts by Home Secretary Suella Braverman to take a much tougher line on both legal and illegal immigration.

However, on visas it is understood she has faced stiff resistance from Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and Education Secretary Gillian Keegan.

The “Rally for the Manifesto” event will take place in Exchange 9 at Manchester Central conference centre on Monday next week between 3pm and 4.30pm.

It will feature speeches from senior figures including Common Sense Group chairman Sir John Hayes, veteran Brexiteer Sir Bill Cash, former leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Ms Cates, Sir John Redwood, former Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, Tom Hunt, Mr Kruger and Lia Nici.
