Yesterday it emerged the French President had referred to Boris Johnson as a “clown” in meetings with advisers on the migrant crisis in the Channel.

He then further inflamed tensions last night when discussing the Northern Ireland Protocol as he declared the Brexit row a matter of “war and peace”.
