Tesco’s advert shows Britons rushing to complete their final Christmas preparations along with Queen’s hit song “Don’t Stop Me Now”. But some believe the supermarket giant suggests that, for those who haven’t been vaccinated against Covid, Christmas might well be stopped.

Campaigners are irked by the section of the ad which shows Father Christmas joyfully presenting a Covid pass to enter the country, with a big green tick stationed over the word “vaccinated”.

“#BoycottTesco” soon began trending on Twitter in the UK, with hundreds of angry shoppers insisting that they will buy their turkey and sprouts elsewhere this year.

‘Scotty #NoVaxPassports’ Wrote: “Push back now, because once you allow this s**t to worm its way into the mainstream, it’ll be here to stay.

“Get your rancid, fascist propaganda off our screens.”

’Simsy’ added: “If you are fedup with huge corporations like Tesco pushing Covid propaganda in their adverts then get on YouTube and downvote into oblivion.”

For many shoppers, the boycott is not just for Christmas but for life.

Corinne Coles fumed on Twitter: “I am NEVER shopping at Tesco again.”

Some users expressed their dedication to the cause by posting a photo of their Tesco Clubcard torn into pieces under the trending hashtag.

Daily Sceptic Editor Toby Young believes, however, that issue has been completely overblown.

He told Express.co.uk: “As a lockdown sceptic, I like this ad. It features a broad cross-section of people saying, in effect, ‘Don’t you dare cancel Christmas.’

“Yes, Santa has to show a Covid Pass, but to cross the border, not to enter a pub. And there’s a good bit in which the ad takes the Mickey out of the Government’s yeah-but-no-but travel restrictions.

“Chalk this up as a win for our team.”

The supermarket’s advert touches on a number of other topical political issues, including food shortages and quarantining.

In one section, it takes a jab at the Government over constantly-changing travel advice, showing an aeroplane stopping and starting on a runway as the travel “green light” is inevitably replaced by the “red light”.

But none of these themes have been as controversial as the jolly presentation of vaccine passports.

Plans to introduce vaccination checks at nightclubs and other ‘large venues’ were scrapped by the Government earlier this year, though they could return if ministers decide to implement its winter ‘Plan B’.

This would also see the return of face mask mandates and work from home advice.
