French President Emmanuel Macron has been slammed by LBC presenter Andrew Pierce over the ongoing post-Brexit fishing row between the UK and France. Mr Pierce launched a blistering tirade at the French leader in response to the seizure of a British fishing trawler by France this week. He questioned whether Mr Macron was simply in an “incredible sulk” because the French had lost out on the AUKUS submarine deal with Australia.

Mr Pierce told LBC: “They can’t sort out the migrants crossing the Channel but they can bring in a large trawler?

“I’m asking you, is it the French president going mad? He’s got an election next year, we know he hates Brexit, we know he can’t stand Boris Johnson.

“And of course the French in my view are still incredibly sore about the fact Britain pinched that big contract for submarines remember, just a few months ago, £60billion worth of contract the French thought they’d got with Australia, Australia changed the terms and did the deal with Britain in the United States because they said, they’re entitled to aren’t they, the French submarines simply weren’t any good.

“Don’t think that contract would have been possible if Britain was still in the EU because of EU procurement rules.

He continued: “So is this all about France striking back at Britain because of Brexit and because Macron’s got a big election which he’s got a big fight on his hands, or is it in your view, just an inevitable consequence of Brexit, which you always thought was going to be a disaster and poison relations with the European Union?

“You know what I voted? I voted for Brexit and I think this is Macron in an incredible sulk.

“In May this year, he was at a big ceremony made a big speech to mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Napoleon Bonaparte, Bonaparte is his great political hero.

“They’ve both got one thing in common, they’re both very short, not meaning that I’m saying that in a pejorative way but they are both very short.

Macron is a figure of hate says Niall McCrae

“Macron will hope to be the first president in some time to win a second term, Bonaparte, as you know, took on the English navy, oh dear Trafalgar, Waterloo he lost and his life ended in exile.”

Mr Pierce added: “Let’s be serious, modern-day now, modern-day diplomacy it is an extraordinary thing isn’t it to impound a trawler?

“Just months after the French threatened to turn off energy supplies to Jersey which I thought was the most extraordinary act.”

On Thursday, the former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith blasted French President Emmanuel Macron after a British scallop trawler was seized by authorities in France.

Sir Iain dismissed the actions of the French President as “window dressing” ahead of the April 2022 French Presidential Elections.

“It’s quite obvious that France is facing an election and the President isn’t doing too well, and I’m afraid it goes with the territory that you then immediately try and pull the tail of the lion across the water, which is the UK,” he told Sky News.

“So first of all, a lot of this is window dressing and nonsense from France.”

He added: “Because that was the agreement that we had signed up to, and they’re satisfied with it, and the UK is simply implementing it, so France is out on a limb on this.”
