Mr Biden’s visit comes amid concerns about the state of the UK-US ‘special relationship’ after Boris and Brexit.

Speaking today, the President said the relationship is “rock solid” in a boost for Rishi Sunak’s international standing.

He added Rishi Sunak “couldn’t be meeting with a closer friend and a greater ally”, adding: “our relationship is rock solid”.

Rishi Sunak said it was “great for us to carry on our conversation” as he met the President for the fifth time since becoming Prime Minister.

Mr Sunak said the pair will consider “how do we strengthen our cooperation, joint economic security to the benefit of our citizens”.

He added the US and UK “stand as two of the firmest allies in that alliance and I know we’ll want to do everything we can to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security”.

The pair walked into the Downing Street garden, where they were pictured drinking tea.

The red carpet was rolled out for the President, with a security officer seen picking up Larry the Cat who had been pictured sunbathing on the carpet prior to the VIP arrival.

The President will head to Windsor afterwards to meet with The King, where they are expected to discuss climate change, before jetting off for the G7 summit in Lithuania.
