Donald Trump has expressed words of support for King Charles III while speaking to Laurence Fox on GB News. He claimed he knew the new monarch “pretty well” and had spent some time with him during his tenure as President alongside his “lovely” wife Camilla.

The King and Queen Consort have begun carrying out their first official duties in their new roles as the period of royal mourning has come to an end.

Mr Trump said that King Charles would be “different now” and would do “very well” in his new role.

He told Mr Fox: “I know him very well, quite well.

“And I spent a lot of time when I was over there as President with him.

“And with his wife [who] was absolutely lovely, by the way, and we had a good time together.

“And I, you know, so I’m a little prejudiced when I say it, but, you know, he had a strong view on things.

“Probably difficult when you’re the King you want to have 100 percent of the people love you like the Queen did.

“The Queen had – everybody loved her, right? She didn’t have that kind of an agenda.

“And yet, you know, she was a very strong woman. I got to know her too. She was a very strong woman, a great woman.

“I think Charles is going to do very well. I think he’s got a great way about him.”

When discussing Charles and his political views, which he will be expected to keep to himself as monarch, Mr Trump agreed that things would have the change for the King in that area.

He continued: “[Charles will] probably keep it where it’s politically a little bit because he feels very strongly about certain things and not everybody agrees with that.

“I think he’ll probably not discuss certain elements of what he believes, 100 percent.”

The former President was also full of praise for Liz Truss, saying he thought “very highly of her and she had a great send-off from the Queen”.
