Scottish National Party (SNP) politician Stephen Flynn spoke out in Parliament about Scotland’s oil fund being “squandered” by Westminster. Mr Flynn discussed how an investment into selling and rigging Scottish oil could help to boost their economy and improve constituents lives. The SNP MP spoke of Norway’s economic boost with oil and insisted Scotland could be earning the same.
Mr Flynn told colleagues in the Commons: “One thing, notwithstanding the just transition notwithstanding the windfall tax.
“One thing, that really irks me more than anything Madame Deputy Speaker and it’s been mentioned a backbencher for the Labour Party.
“And indeed by my colleague, my friend from Kilmarnock, is a lack of an oil fund, in this country.
“If you look across the North sea at Norway, one trillion pounds is sitting in a bank account, because the Norwegians invested in their future.

Mr Flynn added: “And they’re able with that money, to shield their constituents.
“The public in Norway from the shocks that all our constituents are facing at this moment in time.
“Why did they do that and this place not do that?
“Why did this place choose to squander Scotland’s wealth, it’s simply unforgivable.
“And when I have discussions with my constituents going forward about the challenges that they face, I simply hope that the Government will not repeat the mistakes of the past.”

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that she was pushing for Scotland to become friends with a group that is choosing renewable energy over oil and gas.
The organisation Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA) are adopting new ways to use power, such as wind farms.
Ms Sturgeon has been urged to get serious and stick to a renewable energy plan by the organisation Friends of the Earth Scotland.
Ms Sturgeon said: “To support our transition domestically, the Scottish Government will publish a new energy strategy next year. To inform the strategy, we are carrying out an analysis of Scotland’s energy requirements as we move to net zero.

“This research will help us determine how the sector can help deliver our contribution to the Paris targets, and how meeting our own energy needs can help build a new low-emission energy industry.
“Absolutely central to our work will be protecting and supporting those who currently work in oil and gas.
“As our evidence base grows, I would ask that we remain in contact, sharing knowledge and working towards Scotland becoming a Friend of BOGA.”
The UK Government have yet to join the BOGA but The Welsh Government became a member last year.
