June Mummery told Express.co.uk that the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator got one over on the UK in the terms outlined on fishing within the post-Brexit free trade agreement. The former Brexit Party MEP lambasted the UK’s failure to capitalise on a golden opportunity to revive British coastal communities.

Ms Mummery said: “He has played a blinder, an absolute blinder.

“Credit where credit is due, Mr Barnier did [get one over on the UK] and the pressure was put on from Macron.

“Obviously, people say the GDP is not worth that much, we had to use it.

“Well, that GDP is worth everything to coastal communities.

“We had a golden opportunity to rebuild very deprived coastal towns and villages creating thousands of jobs.

“That is a fact, not something I have pulled out of the sky, it is a fact.”

She continued: “I appreciate we had to give to get a deal, I understand that but he [Boris] gave it all away.

“Will we ever be free after five and a half years?”

Brexit: Barnier warns of ‘feelings of not being protected’

During the same interview, the former Brexit Party MEP told Express.co.uk that Boris Johnson “sacrificed” the UK’s fishing industry, coastal communities and Northern Ireland to get Brexit done.

Ms Mummery stated that the post-Brexit free trade agreement with the EU “gave everything away” on fishing and also slammed the UK’s failure to secure the 12 miles of “territorial waters” for Britain’s fishing sector.

The ex-MEP said: “Boris has sacrificed the fishing industry, coastal communities and our friends in Northern Ireland to get Brexit done.

“I expected that we would concede a bit, possibly they could carry on fishing sustainably, banning super trawlers, all these different things.

“But no way did I expect for us to give everything away.

“The Government didn’t even manage to secure the six to 12 mile, our territorial waters.

“They did not even negotiate that so to me, I don’t think the negotiations were good.

“I think David Frost all in all was good but at the end of the day, he used us to get Brexit done.”
