Birmingham explosion: Woman found dead after horror blast destroys entire home

A woman has been found dead at the site of a house explosion in Birmingham.

It happened at 8.30pm on Sunday (June 26), which led to nearby residents being evacuated.

It was said that the sound of the blast was heard for miles, and 25 firefighters were sent to the scene to tackle the blaze.

And this morning the West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: "We’re very sad to confirm that a woman has been found dead at the scene of last night's explosion in #Kingstanding.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone affected."

At the time of the explosions, it was confirmed that a man had suffered from life-threatening injuries as a result of the explosion, and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but the West Midlands Fire Service did confirm that an investigation is taking place.

No details on who the homeowners were have been released, either, nor has any confirmation as to the relationship between the woman who has died or the man injured in the horrific blast.

A spokesman said: "Good progress has been made, we've scaled down the resources we have at the incident but remain in attendance."

And local police confirmed that Dulwich Road – where the explosion happened – will be closed for a "very long time".

Local Labour councillor Sharon Thompson tweeted: "Thoughts are with everyone involved in tonight's horrific explosion in #Kingstanding.

@WMPolice have asked people dont share images out of respect of the families affected – let's respect that. Thank you to emergency services, @BhamCityCouncil & the local community who responded.

"Please stay away from the scene to allow our emergency services to respond.

"This will be very distressing for those involved and those living close by. Out of respect of the families please do not share footage or images."
