Couple forced to wear earplugs in ‘nightmare’ A-road home slam cruel trolls

A couple targeted by trolls after telling how they were forced to wear earplugs in their 'dream home' next to a busy A-road has hit back, saying: "Come and see for yourselves."

Grandparents Jackie and James Mccormack found themselves living a nightmare after purchasing the £325k home – just 9ft from the 70mph dual carriageway.

They said it was like "living next to a motorway" and called for their 800m stretch of road, lined with houses, to be slashed to 40mph and for crash barriers to be installed.

But the 58-year-old mum faced backlash from some readers after telling her story to BirminghamLive – with some saying "you should have known".

Hitting back, Jackie showed how noise levels hit 85 decibels when a lorry thunders past, that James, who works for Rolls Royce, likened the sound to the aircraft engines he makes.

A decibel reading of 85 is the point at which protection is advised to prevent hearing damage.

A separate test saw the volume in the garden measure well above the 120 decibels heard at a rock concert.

Using an app on her iPhone to measure the sound levels, disability charity worker Jackie said: "All these trolls say ‘you should have known’.

"I knew it was a busy road – there’s no getting away from that. I would be stupid if I didn’t think it was a busy road.

"But this – how could I have known?"

In desperation, the couple revealed they have turned to Amazon to buy gadgets that might reduce the racket.

They claim a divot on the road also causes their house to shake.

"When juggernauts pass over it the whole house vibrates," Jackie said.

"We have earplugs in the nighttime but the thud wakes you up. It’s shocking but no-one wants to take responsibility.

"The house has been built too close. Anyone who thinks I’m exaggerating can come and see for themselves."
