Dad-to-be dies and brother hurt in blast while 'building explosive device to be used at baby gender reveal party'
A DAD-to-be died and his brother was hurt in a blast that reportedly took place while they were building a device to be used at a baby gender reveal party.
Christopher Pekny, 28, was killed after the device exploded on Sunday, a local NBC affiliate reported.
His brother, Michael Pekny,27, also reportedly suffered a leg injury and was rushed to hospital.
New York State Police rushed to the scene at around 12pm after reports of an explosion.
A bomb disposal unit are working with cops to investigate the incident.
It has not yet been reported what caused the device to explode.
The news comes just weeks after Evan Thomas Silva, 26, was fatally struck by an exploding cannon that was fired at a baby shower.
Silva, from Hartland, was attending the celebration when the homeowner decided to fire a small cannon-type device in the backyard to celebrate the baby’s pending arrival, according to cops.
Police revealed that the cannon blew up upon firing, spreading metal shrapnel and hitting Silva, who was standing 10 to 15 feet from the explosion.
The shrapnel also spread as far to hit three parked cars and the garage where the baby shower was being held.
Silva was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where he later died from his injuries, cops said.
