Daughter slams ‘inhuman’ woman who used dead mum’s bank cards to buy McDonald’s
A woman who used her dead friend's bank cards to buy McDonald's has been branded "not human" by the heartbroken daughter.
Terrille Yates, 32, bought a McDonald's meal, £14.50 worth of scratchcards and withdrew £300 in cash after finding Jane Godfrey dead at her home.
She was handed an 18-month community order after admitting four counts of fraud in Swinton, Greater Manchester, last March.
Jane's daughter, Sadie Bird, has now blasted Yates, of Cheetham hill, who initially claimed that Ms Godfrey had given her permission to take the money.
She told Manchester Evening News that she was disgusted when she discovered what her mother's friend had done.
“To me that’s not human," she said.
“You don’t find someone dead, take their bank cards and go spend money and the first place you go to is McDonalds.
“It’s something you don’t even see in horror films.
“I’d not been able to get hold of my mum for a few days and Terrilee messaged me herself saying for me to ring her dad [who was in a relationship with Ms Godfrey] regarding my mum.
“He said mum had passed away.
“I thought he was joking, I said “don’t be silly”.
“He said that Terrilee had found her.

“I went round and her house looked like it had been rifled through, her bank statements were everywhere, her bag was empty, her purse was empty, there was no laptop.
“I mentioned to the police that I couldn't find any of her bank cards.
“They did their checks and found that it was Terrilee who had taken the card and gone to the petrol station and McDonalds.”
Sadie said her mum was the only family she had, adding: “My mum didn’t deserve this.

"It’s killed me.”
She said that she was under the impression that Yates was going to be jailed, but as the sentence was passed her ‘heart fell to the floor’.
Sadie said: “I don’t feel like I’ve got justice.
“If she does be good and gets clean, she can move on with her life – she shouldn’t get that opportunity."
Sadie described her mum Jane as bubbly, cocky, loud and funny and ‘she had a heart of gold’.

“But that’s what got her in trouble,
“She would do anything for anyone, even a stranger, and she [Yates] took advantage of her.
"My mum put a roof over her head, food on the table, she did her best for her.
“She’s scum, she's not human.”

Yates was handed an 18 month community order, 180 hours unpaid work, 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirements and ordered to complete a 12 month drug rehabilitation programme.
