Ex-lag says Wayne Couzens ‘needs torturing’ and fears greenlight for criminals
A reformed criminal says "death is too good" for vile Wayne Couzens, adding that the killer cop "needs torturing".
And Cody Lachey now fears the murderer and rapist's heinous crimes will persuade ex-lags to reoffend.
Lachey believes ex-prisoners trying to do good are treated so poorly in society that they become disillusioned when they see authority figures commit brutal acts.
Monster Couzens was recently handed a whole life order for raping, killing and burning the body of Sarah Everard, 33, in March this year.
And Lachey, 37, is convinced that some former offenders struggling to find employment opportunities will likely return to crime as a consequence.
He told the Daily Star: “The prison population has more than doubled in the past 25 years but people have never felt less safe because you have police officers raping and murdering people by using a warrant card.
“…it is a greenlight for criminals to commit crimes too.
“I’m trying to be legal and lawful but how much longer until I’m resigned to it? If society wants to treat me like a criminal I will act like a criminal.”
Lachey, from Manchester, has applied for over 100 jobs since his release but is constantly rejected or ignored.
And he said his criminal record is forcing him to rely on benefits.
He spent two years in jail, including in Manchester’s Strangeways, for charges that include assaulting a cop and harassment threats.
According to Lachey, it is as lawless in prison as it is on the outside and he believes Couzens deserves to be tortured.
He also predicted that the former policeman won’t be alive for much longer.
“Couzens is an absolute scumbag and he’s the worst of the worst,” he said.
“When you have these people in a position of trust and they use it to do the worst crimes imaginable, there is no rehabilitation for them.
“He will be in a protection wing surrounded by rapists, paedos and other former police officers.
“If he was sat in the general prison population he wouldn’t last 24 hours, he would be dead.
“But death would be too good for him, he needs torturing and absolutely dealing with.”
And he warned: “We’re seen as heartless scumbags as ex-offenders but my thoughts and prayers go out massively to Sarah Everard’s family.
“Couzens will not finish his time in prison.
“Trust me, someone will get to him if he doesn’t do himself in first.”
In the wake of the sentencing, the Everard family released a statement that read: "We are very pleased that Wayne Couzens has received a full life sentence and will spend the rest of his life in jail.
"Nothing can make things better, nothing can bring Sarah back, but knowing he will be imprisoned forever brings some relief.
"Sarah lost her life needlessly and cruelly and all the years of life she had yet to enjoy were stolen from her.
"Wayne Couzens held a position of trust as a police officer and we are outraged and sickened that he abused this trust in order to lure Sarah to her death. The world is a safer place with him imprisoned.
"It is almost seven months since Sarah died and the pain of losing her is overwhelming. We miss her all the time.
"She was a beautiful young woman in looks and character and our lives are the poorer without her. We remember all the lovely things about Sarah – her compassion and kindness, her intelligence, her strong social conscience.
"But we especially like to remember her laughing and dancing and enjoying life. We hold her safe in our hearts.
"We are immensely grateful to the police and legal team who worked on Sarah’s case.
"We cannot thank them enough for their meticulous and painstaking work and for their constant support. We also send our heartfelt thanks to our family and friends for comforting us through this terrible time."
