CAPTAIN Tom Moore, the heroic 100-year-old World War II veteran who raised £33million for the NHS, is battling Covid in hospital.

Moore, who rose to the rank of captain while serving in India and Burma during the conflict, was knighted by The Queen for his awe-inspiring fundraising efforts.

Has Captain Tom Moore had the Covid vaccine?

Captain Tom Moore has been admitted to Bedford Hospital as he needed additional help with his breathing, his daughter said on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

Hannah Ingram-Moore said that over the past few weeks her dad had been treated for pneumonia and that he had tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

She said he is being treated in a ward, not in an intensive care unit.

Sky News reported that the heroic Brit has not had the coronavirus vaccine, because he was being treated for pneumonia.

A spokeswoman for his family told The Sun: “Because of the medication he was taking for his pneumonia he couldn’t have the Covid vaccine."

The Prime Minister has tweeted, saying: "My thoughts are very much with Captain Tom Moore and his family.

"You’ve inspired the whole nation, and I know we are all wishing you a full recovery."

When was Captain Tom Moore admitted to hospital?

Hannah said in her statement that Captain Tom had been admitted to hospital on January 31, 2021.

"The medical care he has received in the last few weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible.

"We understand that everyone will be wishing him well.

"We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to."

Who is Captain Tom Moore and how much did he raise?

Tom grew up in Keighley, West Yorks.

He completed an apprenticeship as a civil engineer before joining the 8th Battalion Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, part of the Royal Armoured corps, and fought in the 1942-3 Arakan campaign in WW2.

In 1940 he was selected for officer training and was posted in the 9 DWR in India.

He returned to the UK to train tank crews at Bovington, Wiltshire, and continued his hobby as a motocross rider.

Captain Tom has lived with daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, 50, and her family in Bedfordshire since the death of his wife, Pamela, in 2006.

After the war he returned to civilian life and married Pamela who was 15 years his junior.

During the first UK lockdown from March 23, his aim was to walk 100 laps of the 25-metre (82ft) loop in his garden with the aid of a walking frame in Marston Moretaine, in 10-lap chunks.

He achieved his feat on the morning of April 16.

He then vowed to keep on walking while people were still donating.

He went on to raise 32,796,355 for NHS charities.

When was his birthday?

Tom Moore, born in 1920, turned 100 years old on April 30, 2020.

He succeeded in completing his 100 lap walk before his centenary.

He originally hoped to raise £1,000 but smashed his target within days.

An eight-year-old girl started an online campaign for children to make birthday cards for Moore’s 100th birthday.

Reegan Davies, from Port Talbot, South Wales, set a target of 1,500 virtual cards after posting a video online to thank him for his fundraising efforts.

Captain Tom's birthday was celebrated with an RAF flypast in 2020.

He was also given another birthday present – a promotion to Colonel.

And on July 17, 2020, he was knighted by the Queen in a special ceremony.
