King Charles ‘uncomfortable’ talking about Harry and Meghan in first address

King Charles was "slightly uncomfortable" speaking about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when he briefly spoke about them while addressing a nation, claims body language expert.

The reigning monarch expressed his sadness at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and paid tribute to his wife Camilla, while speaking "lovingly" of Prince William and Kate Middleton and, perhaps surprisingly, even mentioned former senior royals Harry and Meghan.

The Sussexes stepped down from their royal roles in 2020, and since have given a series of unflattering tell-all interviews, from the first with Oprah Winfrey at the start of 2021, to Meghan's most recent with US glossy mag The Cut.

However, King Charles made a point of showing his affection for the couple, saying: "I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas."

But body language expert Adrianne Carter, The Face Whisperer, noticed that it made him uncomfortable to talk about his distant son.

She said: "[It was] slightly uncomfortable for him, as shown by the slightly longer blink, but [he] delivered strongly and [placed] them firmly abroad."

Carter also spotted the evident emotion the newly-appointed King expressed when speaking of his late mother.

"King Charles becomes strongly emotional which we see in the eyes becoming watery and skin change in colour – truly heartfelt from a son to his mother," she said.

"When King Charles talks about the 'sense of loss,' the sadness becomes even more visible on his face."

And Camilla was not left out of the speech either, as Charles seemed keen to make her feel welcome in her new role as Queen.

"This is also a time of change for my family. I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla," he said.

"In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort."

Carter added that Charles' mentioning of his wife, who he married in 2005, was a "determined" effort to showcase her importance.

"[He is] determined and focused, outlying Camilla's role at his side with high praise for the part she has already played since marrying him," she said.

Carter added that the speech was "strong", bringing his reign to "a start in a way his mother would be extremely proud of."

The short speech was broadcast on TV and streamed at St Paul's Cathedral as part of a remembrance service for the Queen attended by an impressive 2,000 people.

Among those in the pews were Liz Truss and senior ministers, as well as members of the public – although no royal family members were in the chapel.
