Malikah Shabazz, one of the six daughters of civil rights activist Malcolm X, has been found dead in her house on Monday night according to police.

A New York Police Department spokesperson said that the 56-year-old was discovered by her daughter at home in Brooklyn, New York at 4:40pm EST (9:40pm UK time).

Authorities do not believe the death appears suspicious at this stage.

Ms Shabazz's passing comes only two days after Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam were officially exonerated for the murder of her father.

The men were cleared after a deathbed letter from an ex-policeman alleged that New York police and the FBI had conspired in the murder of the activist in 1965, prompting the courts to re-examine evidence given in the original trial.
