Mum of teen who lied about rape by gang says what she’s done with £22k donation

The mum of the woman who lied about being raped has confirmed where more than £22,000 raised for her has gone.

Eleanor Williams was jailed for eight-and-a-half years for perverting the course of justice after falsely claiming to have been raped, trafficked and beaten.

The sick 22-year-old said in a May 2020 Facebook post that she had been beaten, abused and trafficked by three “evil yet clever” Asian men.

She said the trio forced her to attend sex parties and posted pictures of horrific injuries to back up her claims.

The three men told Preston Crown Court that they had all tried to commit suicide because of how they were treated following the allegations.

Her mum Alison Johnston, currently suspended Labour councillor for Barrow Island was in charge of a fundraising campaign under the hashtag of #JusticeForEllie.

This was made before her lies started to unravel.

One campaign raised around £22,000 to cover her legal costs – or so it was though.

In a new update, Ms Johnston confirmed that it is being donated to charity.

According to Lancs Live, she wrote on a private Facebook page: “I have been waiting for some time to be able to put out a post on this page in regards to the money raised in 2020 for Ellie.

“I want to be as open and transparent as I possible can, however I must be mindful of legal challenges.

“Based on the legal advise I have received I feel confident that I am finally able to update people safely regarding the situation around the money.

“The remaining funds I was holding have finally been donated in full.”

She did not confirm to where the money has been donated, however.

She continued her Facebook post by ranting about how she has been treated in the media.

"In my opinion these mistruths have been divulged to the media and other social media platforms in a deliberate attempt to intimidate me into parting with the money more quickly than I was comfortable with,” she ranted.

“It is also my opinion that this narrative has been vocalised by some people to make the general public believe that I am corrupt and untrustworthy.

“This attempt to discredit me and my family is of course all untrue and has been carried out without any evidence or justification.

“I have done nothing wrong other than support my daughter in what has been unquestionably the worst time of our life…something that any mother would do.”

A review into her daughter's sentence is ongoing after some felt it was too lenient.
