New pandemic fears as first case of Covid and flu mix dubbed ‘flurona’ confirmed
A new mutant virus – combining Coronavirus and the flu – has been found in a hospital in Israel, it has been reported..
The first case of what some have dubbed "Flurona" was found in a young, pregnant woman in the Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva.
The woman was unvaccinated, and doctors found traces of both the flu and Covid-19 pathogens in her system.
The Israeli Health Ministry is currently studying the results, and the woman has presented with “relatively mild” symptoms of the disease.
And, to make matters even worse, experts in Israel are claiming that there are several other patients with Flurona, but they have not yet been diagnosed.
Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, director of the hospitals' Gynecology Department said: “Last year, we did not witness flu cases among pregnant or birthing women.
“Today, we are seeing cases of both coronavirus and the flu that are starting to rear their head.
“We are seeing more and more pregnant women with the flu.
“It is definitely a great challenge dealing with a woman who comes in with a fever at childbirth.
“This is especially when you do not know if it's coronavirus or the flu, so you refer to them the same – most of the illness is respiratory.
“She was diagnosed with the flu and coronavirus as soon as she arrived.
“Both tests came back positive, even after we checked again.
“The disease is the same disease; they're viral and cause difficulty breathing since both attack the upper respiratory tract.”
Israel has led the way when it comes to fighting Coronavirus, and has, this week, announced the approval of a second booster – or fourth jab in total – for the entire population.
It is thought that the UK is now also looking into the new booster jab idea, as it usually follows Israel when it comes to Covid-related medical decisions.
