North Korea has launched an 'unidentified projectile' towards the Sea of Japan, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, amid World War Three fears.
They add that there is 'at least one' such projectile.
The Japanese Prime Minister's Office suspect that the projectile is a ballistic missile.
A warning has also been issued for vessels in the Sea of Japan, east of North Korea.
It reads: "According to the Ministry of Defense, a possible ballistic missile was launched from North Korea.
"Vessels should pay attention to future information, and if they find a fallen object, do not approach them and report the relevant information to the Japan Coast Guard."
According to military monitoring group Aircraft Spots, American reconnaissance plane USAF RC-135S Cobra Ball watched over the launch.
They tweeted: "North Korea has launched a missile eastward into the Sea of Japan. A USAF RC-135S Cobra Ball was monitoring the launch from a task area over the Sea of Japan."
Kim Jong-un's hermit nation have conducted a number of missile tests already this year as tensions on the Korean peninsula escalate.
Just last week North Korea conducted another ballistic missile test, launching a medium-range weapon similar to the Pukguksong-2 missile on February 27.
Reports said it flew about 300km at a top altitude of 620km from the Sunan Airfield.
Staggeringly, Kim Jong-un tested seven weapons from the start to the end of January this year, surpassing the total amount launched in the whole of 2021.
The news comes amid World War Three fears following the situation in Ukraine, which saw Russian President Vladimir Putin put his nuclear deterrence forces on alert.
Kim Jong-un has reportedly told his military chiefs to 'be ready for World War Three' amid the ongoing crisis in Europe.
Speaking to Radio Free Asia (RFA) on February 27, an official from North Pyongan said: “Yesterday, each regional party committee in the province informed all the party members that our strong ally Russia was at war.
“International relations are strained with Russia at war, so the regional party committee demanded that everyone be ready to be mobilised at all times.”
RFA also reported that their sources have seen some residents of North Korea react to the news, in favour of war breaking out if it meant this “disgusting system we are living under would come to an end”.
