Obsessed woman set ex and new girlfriend on fire after chilling Facebook posts

An obsessed woman made multiple threats on Facebook before dousing her ex and his new partner in petrol and setting them alight.

Sarah Mudge, 31, broke into the home of her former partner Stanley Obi on March 10 at about 2:31am and made the horrific attack which ultimately killed both her and Obi.

Fortunately Obi's new partner and three of her children managed to escape the house in New Beith in Brisbane, but Mudge was unable to get out before the building was consumed by the flames.

Obi sadly could not be saved from the injuries he sustained despite being dragged out of the house by a neighbour.

Mudge's body was eventually recovered from the wreckage by emergency workers.

The horrific incident came after Mudge made several online threats towards Obi following a custody battle in which she lost three of her four children.

Among the messages she posted were ones such as threatening to kill him if he "took the baby from me.

In a different post, she wrote: "F**k that, he did not try to do this, because its (sic) just not an option, I'd have killed him."

The pair had started dating after having a one night stand at a Christmas party in 2017 after Mudge became pregnant, according to Daily Mail Australia.

Mudge's pregnancy had left Obi, who was described by his friend Shaun Meakin as having "Christian values", conflicted and not wanting his child to grow up without a father.

Mr Meakin added that Obi had left his job to start the relationship, but things turned sour after he refused to have six more children on the grounds that he could not support them.

Mudge then reportedly told Obi that he could leave the relationship if he wanted, claiming he was just a "sperm donor", before taking to Facebook to find African sperm donors so that all of her children would have similar features.

A friend of Mudge's, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "For Sarah, to do what is being reported, I can honestly say she was not in her right mind – she must have been pushed beyond the point of no return. She got pushed too far and broke."

They added: "Her chosen actions were not in her character."

Both Mudge and Obi had been known to police, and each took out an order against the other under allegations of domestic abuse.

An inquest will now be conducted into the horrendous incident.
