Queen uses surprise public appearance to give subtle nod of support to Ukraine

The Queen used a surprise public appearance today to subtly air her support for Ukraine in her latest public appearance.

Just days after Ukraine won over the public vote in the Eurovision Song Contest, Queen Elizabeth II has shown her support for the war-torn country currently under invasion by Russian forces.

The long-reigning monarch's latest appearance came as a surprise to those at Paddington station, where the Queen attended an event to mark the completion of the Elizabeth line.

It was at this surprise appearance that the Queen showed her subtle support for Ukraine, who were invaded by Vladimir Putin's Russian forces in February.

Her Majesty was spotted at Paddington station dressed up in a sunshine yellow coat and a matching hat adorned with blue flowers, the same two colours that comprise the Ukrainian flag.

Prior to the Queen's attendance at Paddington, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "In a happy development, Her Majesty the Queen is attending today’s event to mark the completion of the Elizabeth line.

"Her Majesty was aware of the engagement and the organisers were informed of the possibility she may attend."

It is the third appearance the Queen has made in less than a week, after spending much of 2022 making virtual-only appearances due to ongoing mobility issues.

The appearance of the Queen, adorned in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, is not the first time Her Majesty has shown some subtle support for the war-torn country.

During a meeting with Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau on March 8, the Queen once more marked her support for the country by having blue and yellow flowers visible in a vase behind her.

The meeting with Trudeau also saw the monarch, who is required to maintain a neutral stance on political matters, also wore a blue-patterned dress, The Independent reported.
