Senior Conservatives insist the party can win all four upcoming by-elections after yet another MP resigned from the Commons at the weekend.
David Warburton became the fourth MP in little more than a week to announce they were standing down, following Boris Johnson, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams.
In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Mr Warburton admitted taking cocaine after drinking ‘tons of incredibly potent’ Japanese whisky – but denied claims that he had harassed a female aide in his Westminster flat.
Mr Warburton won Somerton and Frome with a 19,213 majority at the last election but the Liberal Democrats, who previously held the seat, are confident of retaking it.
Some expect Labour to take the former PM’s seat in Uxbridge and Mr Adams’ Selby constituency in Yorkshire, while the Lib Dems believe they can overturn Ms Dorries’ huge majority in Mid Bedfordshire.

Yet asked yesterday if the Tory ship was sinking, Michael Gove told GB News: ‘No, we have four by-elections and I’m confident that the Conservative message will prevail.
‘We are the party that’s committed to halving inflation, to making sure we reduce debt, we grow the economy, we cut NHS waiting lists, and also we stop the boats.’
And former Cabinet minister David Davis dismissed suggestions the Tory party is in a similar state to John Major’s ahead of the Labour landslide in 1997.
