UK beach branded ‘worst place on earth’ with visitors warned to ‘stay away’

A top UK beach has been slammed as one of the “worst places on Earth”, as an ominous warning was issued to sun chasers.

As the British weather turns from deathly cold to slightly sunnier climbs, many Brits are starting to ponder where they will be going later this year for a day out or staycation.

But one beach is going to be squarely crossed off the list, if TripAdvisor reviews are anything to go by.

Southend's Jubilee Beach was once the jewel in the area's beach crown.

However, recent heavy fain has seen a swathe of raw sewage pumped into the sea by the beach.

It was listed by Surfers Against Sewage as one of 70 across the UK where the waters now come with a warning.

But for Jubilee Beach – also known as City Beach – it seems like issues of various guises have been piling up for several years.

The beach is listed as low was the 68th best thing to do in Southend-on-Sea on review site TripAdvisor, with an average of three out of five stars from 82 reviews.

And while some who visited said it was a "lovely and calm location", and that it has "beautiful views and ambiance", it seems like many others were far less impressed.

One user, in a review titled “The worst place on Earth”, wrote: “Avoid the beach, avoid the city, avoid the people.

“More drug dealers, drug takers and tramps than anyone else – an absolutely abysmal place.”

And a second posted, under the heading of “avoid this beach”: “When we arrived, we saw many red flags as we went along.

“Lots of litter on the beaches and pavements, filthy water with plastics in it and generally it is just a bad beach.

“As time went by we didn't even go to the beach for the whole day trip and we mostly just stayed at the arcade.

“Lastly as we were headed to the car park on our way home, we saw a bunch of kids who looked 11-12 ish and all were vaping and hitting each other near a KFC.

“Then police passed by and didn't even speak to them.”

A third claimed that the area is full of the smell of “weed”, and parents are often seen “dirty dancing on each other”.

They added: “The type of people that come here is probably why I'd never go again.

“Followed around by a creepy guy when it was just me and my three-year-old daughter."

Many users noted that the beach is "pristine in the morning", and that the rubbish arrived later in the day, however, several other reviews claimed that the beach was constantly full of litter, and one went as far as calling it the “dirtiest” beach they had ever been to.
