"Beaning" is a TikTok trend that saw teens emptying cans of baked beans onto people's doorways.

Clips circulated on the video sharing giant under the hashtag #beanbandits showing youths smearing the tinned food onto driveways, doorsteps, and cars.

Sheila Mclaghlan, one of Britain's first female priests was left shocked after her home was targeted in September 2021, but was supported by neighbours.

She said: "Out of this has come a real rallying around of the local neighbourhood and the community.

“It’s been really nice to see how folks have volunteered to help clean up, popped round, mailed and messaged – so it’s been good and bad news.”

What have people said about the baked beans trend?

In September 2021, after becoming aware of the phenomenon, West Yorkshire Police and urged local shop workers to be aware of youths buying large quantities of the breakfast favourite.

In a statement, PCSO Michelle Owens said: "It has come to the attention of the police that a new trend has started by groups of youths called 'beaning'.

"This involves youths throwing the contents of a can of beans over properties, very similar to the trend of throwing eggs at properties.

"If you work in a shop, please can you be aware of youths buying large quantities of cans of beans, if you have children living at home, please be mindful if you see them removing cans of beans from the family home."

And though you're able to have a TikTok account from the age of 13, you'll need to be over 16 to go live on the platform.

If you meet these requirements, you can go live with the following steps

  1. Open the app
  2. Press the main "+" button found at the bottom of the screen
  3. From here you'll be presented with a "Live" option
  4. Give your stream a title (name it carefully so that people can search and find it easily)
  5. Once you've chosen a name, press "GO LIVE" and you'll be streaming live
  6. To end the stream, simply press the power button at the bottom of the menu screen
