Massive fire erupts engulfing M6 motorway after four explosions heard

A huge explosion has broken out on the M6 motorway as four explosions were heard.

A Twitter account for West Midlands National Highway commented on the incident as they tweeted: "The M6 southbound is closed between J3 (Coventry) and J2 (M69) due to a vehicle fire".

It added: "Emergency services and Traffic Officers are en route to scene.

"Delays are beginning to build on approach, please avoid the area if possible and allow extra journey time."

According to the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Twitter account: "1 heavy goods vehicle well alight between Junctions 3 and 2 on the M6.

"Three fire appliances and a water carrier in attendance."

One Twitter user commented on the incident as he said he was woken up by the explosions.

"Woke by huge explosions, scary as f**k," he said.
