Met Police have launched a hunt for a smiling man seen posing topless in a selfie after a woman in her early 20s was raped in a ‘horrifying attack’ in London last year.

Detectives released two photographs of the man today as part of their investigation into the alleged attack. 

An investigation was launched after police responded to a property in Forest Gate, Stratford on December 12 around 11pm. 

Officers are now asking for the public to help identifying a man they would like to speak with in attempt to progress their probe.

‘This is a truly horrifying incident, which no person should ever be subject to,’ Detective Inspector Jeremy McDermott, from the North East Command Unit, said in his plea for information.

‘We have carried out a number of enquiries since the incident was reported and are now asking for members of the public to assist with our investigation.

‘We would ask anyone who recognises the man in the photos to call us or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.’

Anyone with information about the identity of the man is asked to call the police on 101 with CAD reference 2709 of 16/11/2022. Tipsters can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meantime, police have revealed that a ‘number of enquiries’ have been carried out in connection to the attack.

They claim the victim is also continuing to receive specialist support.
