A besotted prison officer fell pregnant with a rapist's love child after they started an "intense" relationship once he was released from jail – where they first met.

The 24-year-old officer had become "obsessed" with Kade Sibthorpe, 29, and ditched her job so she could move to Oldham, Manchester with him.

But Sibthorpe soon became abusive towards her, with the former officer reporting that he had punched her in the stomach during her pregnancy and threatened her at knifepoint.

The pregnancy was later terminated and she claimed that she had lost the baby due to his abusive ways, reports Manchester Evening News.

Sibthorpe, who was jailed for six years for raping a mum in her own home, was serving his sentence at HMP Bure in Norfolk when the pair formed an "inappropriate" relationship.

It was reported that they were once caught in a cleaning storeroom together, and after concerns were raised prison bosses had her moved to work on another wing.

In August last year, Sibthorpe was released from prison and had arranged to move in with the former officer.

Prosecutor Henry Blackshaw said his abusive behaviour started soon into their relationship, as he was "untrusting" and "suspicious" of her – with Sibthorpe even pinning her down by the throat.

On one occasion he threw her clothes out of the window, and on another, he tipped her out of the bed and called her an "immature little b****".

He also punched her in the abdomen and threatened her with a large kitchen knife before "forcing her to take them for a drive up to the moors".

The next morning the pair got into a "violent confrontation" outside a Tesco Express store in Oldham – where the woman could be seen "physically shaking" whilst wearing only a dressing gown and slippers.

A Tesco worker confronted Sibthorpe, who denied hitting her and said: "No, no we are okay, she's been like this all morning, she just needs to go back to the flat and sort herself out."

After again being accused of hitting her, he said: "No, you are very much mistaken, I was leaning over to open the door for her."

She was taken to hospital and on December 22 her pregnancy was terminated after she had surgery.

Sibthorpe, from Salford, has now been jailed for 21 months for controlling and coercive behaviour that he demonstrated over the course of four months.

It was reported that even after he was sent back to prison, she started to contact him under the name 'Sophie Walker', sent him nude pictures of herself and proceeded to meet him for "closure".

Summarising the former officer's impact statement, Mr Blackshaw said: "She says she effectively lost herself."

He said she is "very damaged and hurt" and has felt suicidal.
