Urban explorer reveals wreckage inside footballer Jermaine Pennant’s abandoned £3million mansion after fire ripped through the property

An Urban explorer reveals wreckage inside footballer Jermaine Pennant’s abandoned £3million mansion after a fire ripped through the property.

Daniel Sims, 33, known as BeardedReality on YouTube, took to his channel to give his followers an insight into the burned-down former home of Jermaine Pennant, who played for Liverpool from 2006-2009.

The former Arsenal and Leeds United star, 39, bought the five-bedroom mansion in 2006 when he joined Liverpool and lived there until he left the club to play for a Spanish team.

He then rented the home in Speke, Cheshire, for a further decade as his footballing career saw him move several times – including stints in India and Singapore before he finally retired in 2017.

But the property has stood empty since 2020 after the footballer split from his then partner model Alice Goodwin, 32.

The abandoned home, near Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, was subsequently converted into a cannabis farm and was subject to a drugs warrant early last year – leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old man.

But firefighters rushed to the house last October when a blaze broke out.

Police have launched an arson investigation into the fire.  

Youtuber Daniel showed his 9,500 subscribers that the property was nowhere near its former glory.

Viewers were soon introduced to a slew of derelict rooms, fallen tiles and piles of black bin bags, filled to the brim with refuse.

The property itself has been in a deserted state since 2020, with a drug warrant allegedly being served at the location in recent months after officers reportedly discovered a cannabis farm with multiple plants.

‘I explored this site with Mr Micky late last year just after it had two fires and a cannabis factory inside it,’ said the Huddersfield-based content creator.

‘We were on the site for a good hour navigating the place, filming and taking pictures.

‘The house itself was not all stable so it was quite dangerous and had quite a few low-flying planes so we were trying to catch this on film.’

Daniel, who uploaded the video last month, even alleges that there were some marijuana plants leftover that hadn’t been seized by the authorities.

He said: ‘When we first got to the property, we could instantly see that the upper floors were hit quite a bit by the fire, but the building itself is still intact.

‘We made our way around the building to find the doors wide open and all the old furniture just tipped into the garden.

‘Now originally when I heard about this place being left, I knew that there were still cannabis plants growing inside and that everything had been left behind so it was quite shocking seeing the state of the place.

‘We made our way inside to see the damage and you could see how the people that had been growing [weed] there had made their own food set up and were using portable cooking equipment.

‘As we made our way round the building you can see where the cannabis plants were and how dangerous the property is in its current state.’

But despite its current ransacked condition, the YouTuber could visualise how the former homeowner and professional footballer would have originally lived.

He said: ‘I do think the place itself would have been at one point a lovely home and it does have some amazing features.

‘I did love seeing the player’s lounge section which looked like it was a proper man cave at one point, but seems like it had been left as a dumping ground once the growers had moved in.

‘I love the pool at the back where the planes fly low as really gives an amazing vibe to it, so it’s a shame to see this place now ravaged by fire and overgrown and rotting away.

‘It’s surprising how it has just been left to rot and not either sold on or reused – it boggles my mind.’
